Amy Madigan Steals the Spotlight at 2026 Golden Globes in Nostalgic Red Carpet Look

Makeup artist Nick Barose explains how he designed the ‘Weapons’ nominee’s classic appearance for her first attendance at the event in 36 years.

Madigan is nominated for Best Actress in a Secondary Role. It’s the veteran actress’s first Golden Globe nomination in 36 years, and her first appearance at the event in 20 years.

For tonight’s gathering, makeup artistNick Baroseicon-coded glamour for the star, who donned a Thom Browne suit that echoed the style of the outfit she wore to the Golden Globes three decades prior.

“I consistently complete my homework, especially when collaborating with a veteran like Amy, whom I’ve admired for decades,” Barose says.

I really enjoyed how Amy appeared in men’s inspired suits, following the legacy of other Hollywood legends like Katharine Hepburn, Greta Garbo, and Marlene Dietrich who embraced men’s clothing while appearing extremely stylish. However, for someone like Amy, who has numerous impressive red carpet outfits from the 80s and 90s, I prefer to take inspiration from her own previous iconic looks.

Due to the resemblance of her current attire to her 1996 outfit, Barose believed that the makeup from that night was an ideal starting point for today.

Amy’s style from 30 years back is truly classic. Many young actresses nowadays dress and apply their makeup in a similar way, making it simple to update the look. However, one aspect I avoid is the flat skin and lip texture, which is challenging to achieve in 2026. Instead, we chose to add more radiance to the skin and a subtle shine on the lips.

For her skin, the expert emphasizes that long-term care is essential. “I need to maintain that additional moisture and radiance” from the afternoon through the evening.

This helps replicate the natural inner radiance that will appear flattering in photos and in person,” the expert says. Regarding her makeup, he adds, “the main idea is to incorporate a burst of color on the lips and cheeks.

Barose, who has been designing makeup styles for Madigan over the past few months, values their time spent together. “She is very laid-back and cool, so it’s always enjoyable and fun with her,” he mentions, noting, “and she makes the most amazing frothy coffee before the makeup session, and I really appreciate that.”

Madigan mentions she is eager to collaborate with Barose once more.

I sometimes feel a bit overwhelmed when doing makeup,” she says, continuing, “He has made it so simple — he is truly a talented artist.

The actress added, “He truly makes me look amazing, and as an older woman, he understands how to enhance that. He is a fresh presence in my life and is here to stay.”

As for her plans after the show? Madigan mentions that Warner Bros. Pictures, whose New Line Cinema division producedWeapons, is “having a party” after the ceremony, so with her daughter and husband, joining her for the show, “we’ll go to that [after] and see what happens!”

Madigan had previously stated that she and Harris weretickled over her nomination. 

“We’ve both been involved in it for a very long time, so we’re just both laughing about it. We’re both having fun,” she said.

Madigan has been nominated four times during her acting career. Her first nomination was for New Star Of The Year – Actress forLove Child, arrived in 1983. Seven years afterward, she received a nomination for Best Performance by an Actress in a Supporting Role in any Motion Picture forTwice in a Lifetime.

The most recent time Madigan was nominated for a Golden Globe — in January 1990 — she received the award for her performance as lawyer Sarah Weddington in the television filmRoe Vs. Wade, regarding the struggle for reproductive rights.

She was present in 1996, 1999, 2003, and 2006 to back Harris, who received a nomination each of those years.
