A heartfelt tribute was conducted at this year’s Golden Globes to remember the late Rob Reiner, although some fans might have overlooked it.

The award show occurred at the Beverly Hilton in Los Angeles, California, and was once again hosted by Nikki Glaser for the second year in a row. A month prior to the Golden Globes broadcast, Rob Reinerand his wife, Michele, were killed by stab wounds while at their residence.

Rob was recognized for directing a number of cherished movies, such as When Harry Met Sally, The Princess Bride, A Few Good Men, and film adaptations based on Stephen King’s novels, Misery and Stand By Me. He also appeared in memorable acting roles on TV series like New Girl and in films including The Wolf of Wall Street. Numerous supporters immediately turned to X, previously called Twitter, to express their surprise that Reiner was not recognized, and also that no famous personalities who passed away in 2025 were included, as the In Memoriam section was completely omitted.

“Why wasn’t there an in memoriam segment at the Golden Globes? Isn’t that usually included? It was genuinely disappointing,” one person wrote.

However, although some people were disappointed that a segment appeared to be missing, they also noticed that host Nikki Glaser subtly honored Reiner at the end of the show, including a mention of one of his most famous movies.

As she stepped onto the stage for her last performance to wrap up the event, she was dressed in a black dress adorned with silver accents — and she completed the look with a black baseball cap featuring the words “Spinal Tap” on it.

“Well, that’s our performance. This one reached 11,” she said.

Clever viewers quickly noticed the hat and the reference to going to 11, a joke from This Is Spinal Tap, directed by Reiner. Nevertheless, although they appreciated Glaser’s homage, they still voiced frustration that a more extensive tribute in memory wasn’t featured in the show.

It’s good that Nikki Glaser paid a brief tribute to Rob Reiner at the end of the show, but when did the #GoldenGlobes stop including an In Memoriam segment? Several well-known individuals passed away this year.

A heartfelt tribute by @NikkiGlaser to Rob Reiner with the Spinal Tap hat at the conclusion of the Golden Globes,” another person remarked. “It’s unfortunate there was no memorial.

However, although fans were puzzled by the absence of a segment, it has never been included in the Golden Globes — rather, the Emmys, Critics’ Choice, Oscars, and other major award ceremonies have featured them.

Glaser admitted this during a pre-show interview, mentioning that she would approach the tribute to Reiner “with care.”

I was familiar with him, but not in a deep way, and it’s a sensitive situation because we don’t have an official In Memoriam, so there isn’t a specific area dedicated to remembering everyone we’ve lost. However, I have something in mind that I’m going to do on my own to recognize him and celebrate his life in my own unique manner, she mentioned at that moment.

Reiner and his wife, Michele, were discovered dead in their Los Angeles residence on December 14. The couple was found by their daughter, Romy Reiner, following their failure to attend a planned massage session.

Their son, Nick Reiner, has been accused of first-degree murder in the death of his parents. At his initial court appearance, the 32-year-old was wearing a safety vest designed to prevent self-harm and chose not to enter a plea.

Nick has a background of addiction and faces challenges with his mental well-being. He authored the semi-autobiographical movie Being Charlie, which was also directed by his renowned father, depicting the experiences of a man’s cycle of rehabilitation and his intricate family dynamics.

From the age of 15 to 19, Nick experienced 18 different stays in rehabilitation centers. Collaborating on the film proved to be a therapeutic experience for Rob and Nick, with Rob openly discussing in interviews how he and his wife erred by not paying attention to their son’s needs.

“When Nick expressed that it wasn’t working for him, we ignored him. We were in a hurry, and since those individuals had degrees displayed on their walls, we paid attention to them instead of our son,” Rob mentioned in an interview with the LA Times.

It was also noted that the Los Angeles Police Department has had a history of responding to calls at the Reiner residence over the years. Documents acquired by the Daily Mail indicate that law enforcement were contacted in 2013, 2014, 2017, and on two occasions in 2019. The 911 calls involved matters such as basic mental health evaluations and claims of domestic abuse.
