Two key questions approachingthe 2026 Golden Globes: Who is expected to take the lead in this year’s award season? And: Does anyone want a drink? Hollywood’s lively start to the Oscar race begins at 8 p.m., with Nikki Glaser back as host. We’ll be here all night, examining the outfits on the red carpet and keeping an eye out for successful nights for “One Battle After Another,” “Sinners,” and “The White Lotus.” (Speaking of which: Yes, I’d like a mai tai, thank you!)

“Elite” nominee Jean Smart wasn’t in the mood to discuss her nomination when she spoke with “ET” red carpet host Kevin Frazier, recognizing that TV comedies can provide comfort during tough times but stating that everything seemed overshadowed by recent events.
I believe we’re at a significant moment in this country, and I hope people can remain calm,” Smart stated. “Because that’s actually going to be the most challenging part, I think, which is staying composed, but that will require a lot of bravery and self-control, and I believe it’s crucial.
I am aware that some people find it irritating when actors use such chances to discuss social and political issues,” she continued. “However, I am not speaking at the moment as an actress; I am simply expressing myself as a citizen and a mother, and I hope others can comprehend that.

Rose Byrne has been nominated for “If I Had Legs I’d Kick You.”
To this dress I declare: If I had funds, I’d purchase you.
This hue looks excellent on Rose Byrne and complements this set well.
Like the way it flows and appreciate the decorations on top that add a touch of formality.

A person who isn’t fond of the new red carpet arrangement: Julia Roberts. “I’ve never seen anything like this before. It’s a bit strange. A little hot and packed.” Julia’s energy is completely in line with her usual style! She’s dressed in a deep black velvet outfit and has a stunning, jewel-encrusted strawberry necklace, and she told the Variety crew to switch to Jean Smart, shouting, “Jean! You look like a goddess! Focus on her!” She also invited Amanda Seyfried over for an interview. (Seyfried acted as if she was eating her strawberry necklace.)
Julia is nominated for best actress in a movie drama for “After the Hunt,” which has also been shortlisted for three categories at the Razzies, including worst picture. We can only hope she attends that event and dominates it as well.

Is Ariana dressed in black to express her grief over the loss of her Oscar prospects?
If that’s the case: I understand, honey. You should have won in 2025, Ms. Grande.
Well, this dress serves as a lovely substitute.

There’s been a true display of finger waves and flowing Veronica Lake hairstyles tonight, and Amanda Seyfried is a fitting addition. Seyfried is nominated for two roles, in “Long Bright River” and “The Testament of Ann Lee,” and this draped white column dress gives an Old Hollywood vibe to an artist who is well on her way to becoming a modern-Hollywood icon.

Sheryl Lee Ralph, stunning in a chocolate brown satin dress adorned with shimmering accents and a playful cape, recently told Variety that “Abbott Elementary” is among just three shows still producing 22 episodes per season, and I was devastated. Let’s bring back serialized storytelling! Not every show has to be an eight-hour film!

Perhaps not the best night to leave people questioning, “Is Snoop Dogg attempting to look like a leader?”

Teyana Taylor, who is up for best supporting actress this evening, commended her director (Paul Thomas Anderson) and her co-stars (Leonardo DiCaprio, Sean Penn, Regina Hall) for all the knowledge she gained during filming “One Battle After Another.”
One aspect of me is that I’m a student,” Taylor mentioned on E! “And then I become SpongeBob SquarePants because I absorb everything.

He never does anything in a small way, does he? Patrick Schwarzenegger’s Dolce & Gabbana outfit — a double-breasted jacket with wide lapels and flowing pants.and a brooch and an oversize bow tie and Some extremely bold aviator sunglasses — are overwhelming me. I’m not sure where to look!

Wait, did I overlook something? Is Walton Goggins endorsing a new biographical film where Colonel Sanders transforms into a magician?

Phew, is this Teyana Taylor outfit something to see. From the flowing, sculpted front to the shiny whale-tail bow peekaboo thong in the back, this custom Schiaparelli piece is a bold mix of elegance and playfulness. “The crack is covered in diamonds,” Taylor, who is nominated for best supporting actress in a film for “One Battle After Another,” joked on E!.

Thus far, the red carpet looks are leaning more towards classic Hollywood style rather than bold, attention-grabbing outfits.
However, we do have Jenna Ortega embodying the Cher style of red carpet fashion.

Amy Madigan transformed into a recognized gay icon and meme queen through her portrayal of Gladys in “Weapons,” for which she has been nominated for best supporting actress tonight.
No campiness here! Just a charming and elegant tuxedo combo with her husband Ed Harris.
7:08 PM: Insights from Jada Yuan, Feature reporter focusing on culture and entertainment
That’s where a deep red carpet really stands out! Adam Scott, who’s up for best actor in a TV drama, is sporting a vivid red tuxedo jacket, which he can pull off because his stylist said, “This doesn’t clash, honey!” (Not entirely convinced about the dramatic side-part pompadour.) The only concern I have, though, is whether this will limit others from wearing outfits in the shade of pinot noir? That would be a real pity.

Kate Hudson, who is nominated for best actress in a musical or comedy for “Song Sung Blue,” appears in a custom Armani Privé gown. The dress required over 100 hours of work, according to Variety. Her last Golden Globe win was for “Almost Famous” in 2000. Tom Cruise presented the award, and she mentioned keeping it in her bar room “where I have my cocktails” and greeting it whenever she enjoys a martini. Oh, to have a bar room! (This writer lives in a one-bedroom apartment.)

Another fashion paradox!
Usually, you don’t want your dress to overshadow you. And Aimee Lou Wood appears somewhat worn out and subdued in this large black evening gown.
But that enhances the “ordinary girl experiencing a fairy tale” atmosphere, particularly with the loose hair. Heartfelt! Open-hearted! Endearing!

I’m uncertain about my opinion on Jason Bateman and Amanda Anka’s attire, but I’m definitely interested in finding out where the celebration is taking place after the event.

Stellan Skarsgård is up for best supporting actor in “Sentimental Value,” where he plays a director and father, a part he mentioned felt personally significant.
I experienced sympathy for him because I understand the struggle between your art and personal life,” Skarsgard stated. “He was stuck in it. He lacked the words to discuss his feelings with his children.

Gwyneth Paltrow cast a significant influence in 1999 for any blonde woman donning a large ballet-pink ball gown on the red carpet. However, Nikki Glaser, who is hosting the Globes for the second consecutive year, manages to stand out.

A more relaxed men’s suit can be a challenging style to pull off. Particularly in brown. Many men might end up looking like they’re wearing a secondhand outfit for a middle school play of “Guys and Dolls.”
But Noah Wyle is not like many others! The “Pitt” nominee appears self-assured and at ease.

Sure, here’s a paraphrased version of your text: Tessa Thompson wearing a chartreuse sequined column dress is my perfect vision of what L.A.’s Met Gala could represent. It’s elegant, attention-grabbing, and features a bold color that suits very few people. However, it also appears light and seems like it would be comfortable for dancing the whole night through. In the pictures, it seems more olive-toned. On video, it shows a nice hint of yellow playfulness. 10/10.

What are everyone’s thoughts on the new red carpet design? Some are referring to it as “The West Coast Met Gala,” and I really appreciate the dark red carpet and how it complements the dresses (as well as allowing women to wear vibrant reds!). However, I keep considering it from a media standpoint and how challenging it would be to conduct interviews. Are the pictures taken on the golden steps worth it? I believe they are, but if this is the L.A. version of the Met, I’ll need people to wear significantly less black.

Elle Fanning has been nominated for best supporting actress in “Sentimental Value,” a film where her role represents the Hollywood movie industry.
Likewise, in a form-fitting Gucci dress that radiates sparkling Hollywood positivity.
6:40 PM: She captivated audiences in ‘Better Call Saul.’ In her latest series, she takes center stage.
Our overview of the candidate…
NEW YORK — Rhea Seehorn pauses to consider it.
Has she been overlooked? The 53-year-old actress tilts her head, takes a bite of scrambled eggs, and considers the idea. “I’m not sure I ever thought that,” Seehorn says on a rainy fall morning at the Crosby Bar in SoHo. She briefly considers the possibility before her modesty dismisses it. “If I were to accept that statement, it would mean I always believed I was better than what people were saying,” she reflects. “That’s definitely not the case.”
After moving to Hollywood two decades ago to appear in “I’m With Her,” an ABC sitcom that ran for just one season, Seehorn took on small roles, filmed numerous pilots, and gained comedic experience in the two-season NBC show “Whitney.” However, significant film roles were uncommon until “Better Call Saul” creators Vince Gilligan and Peter Gould offered Seehorn the role of Kim Wexler, the unconventional attorney who accompanies Bob Odenkirk’s swindler Jimmy McGill as he descends into the Albuquerque criminal world.

Ayo Edebiri spotted this black Chanel dress featuring shoulder brooch details at the French fashion house’s Métiers d’art 2026 show in New York just a month ago. She expressed her desire to own it, telling E! that it was “for a movie star, old Hollywood kind of moment.”

I’ve always supported Natasha Rothwell, but this dress seems incomplete.

Confident and classic!
Poofy but somehow restrained!
Selena Gomez is making me consider that Chanel, under Matthieu Blazy’s direction, could offer an excellent balance of sparkle for a night out during a challenging period.

It must be exciting to be “Heated Rivalry” actor Hudson Williams — a complete unknown just a short time ago, now seen everywhere. He’s living up to the moment, I’ll admit, in a cream silk shirt (unbuttoned down to)there, naturally) and a cummerbund and a serpentine necklace from Bulgari.

Excellent ensemble coordination from the women of “KPop Demon Hunters,” all dressed in black. However, the highlight might be Audrey Nuna in Thom Browne. This unique piece is quintessentially Thom Browne: black and white with a spooky yet noble aesthetic. And I absolutely adore these wonderfully witch-like shoes.

6:20 PM: How a cherished TV geek evolved into ‘one of the finest actors of his era’
Our depiction of the candidate…
When Jesse Plemons agreed to portray a wild conspiracy theorist in “Bugonia,He hadn’t fully realized how much time he would be spending in a beekeeper’s suit.
Running while wearing a beekeeper suit. Abducting Emma Stone’s mysterious pharmaceutical CEO in a beekeeper suit. Performing extreme acts of violence while in a beekeeper suit. Rapidly cycling (overcome with remorse for those violent actions) while wearing a beekeeper suit. All during the filming of an absurd comedy in the middle of a sweltering summer.
“It was quite warm inside that bee costume, I can tell you that!” Plemons remarks.
It has been more than a year since Plemons filmed “Bugonia” — his second movie in two years, where he played against Stone in a surreal comedy directed by Greek filmmaker Yorgos Lanthimos (“Poor Things,” “The Favourite”) — and the 37-year-old actor is no longer drenched in “constant sweat,” as The Post’s critic notedaptly describedhis anxious (and perhaps foresighted?) persona, Teddy.

6:10 PM: How Amy Poehler’s ‘Good Hang’ managed to overcome celebrity podcast exhaustion
Our tale regarding the candidate…
Every Monday afternoon, a special event takes place on Instagram within a particular corner of the online world: Amy Poehler reveals who will join her for an interview on her podcast, “Good Hang,” the following day.
God is real, and this podcast’s talent booker,” one user commented when the announcement revealed Julia Louis-Dreyfus, the acclaimed actress from “Seinfeld” and “Veep.
“The organizer of this event is completely out of hand,” another person said after seeing Academy Award winner Olivia Colman added to the lineup.
“A girl who is responsible for scheduling because I’m so amazed by your guests it’s actually crazy,” one fan wrote after finding out that Paramore singer Hayley Williams would be Poehler’s next guest.

Half of Hollywood is expected to attend the Globes, but based on what I’m seeing on my social media, the main reason to watch is because of the “Heated Rivalry” stars, Connor Storrie and Hudson Williams, who will be presenting an award and seated at a table with Charli XCX.
The creators of Globes are aware of the unique opportunity they currently have. These two skilled actors were both employed in food service just a few months back, and now they are among the most renowned young celebrities worldwide. Every event they attend turns into an “HR” gathering, with figures like Myha’la, Gracie Abrams, and Busy Philipps eager for photo opportunities. Madonna and Donatella Versace have taken notice of them. Companies are eager to see who will secure their endorsement or dress them for the Met Gala.
Storrie was asked to reveal the nominees for the SAG-AFTRA Actor Awards. Jimmy Fallon compared fan responses to Williams’s appearance on “The Tonight Show” to the excitement of the Beatles coming to America. Both actors have mentioned they are now receiving a large number of new scripts to consider.
Compare this to the Emmys. Unless the Television Academy modifies its extremely strict rules, “Heated Rivalry” will not be eligible for any awards in September (as it was entirely produced in Canada before HBO decided to distribute it in the U.S.). I believe this is the point where the Globes becomes more relevant than the Emmys, or pushes the Emmys to reconsider these and other confusing eligibility guidelines (which often result in, for example, the second season of “The Bear” being recognized long after we’ve seen the third).
5:50 PM: Speaking of Thursday night …
You’re correct, the Golden Globes had already started earlier this week. “Golden Eve” served as the pregame event for the Golden Globes.
At the prime-time special that aired on Thursday, Sarah Jessica Parker was honored with the Carol Burnett Award for her impact on television, while Helen Mirren was presented with the Cecil B. DeMille Award for her accomplishments in film.
Matthew Broderick, the husband of Parker for almost 30 years, presented the award to the “Sex and the City” actress. In heracceptance speech, Parker expressed great admiration for Burnett as the renowned comedian was seated in the audience.
One could argue that without Carol Burnett’s outstanding performance as Winnifred, which made the show deserving of numerous regional and high school productions, my parents might never have met,” Parker stated, referencing the 1959 musical “Once Upon a Mattress,” where Burnett made her Broadway debut. “And thirty years later, I wouldn’t have had the challenging honor of portraying Princess Winnifred in Broadway’s first revival, where Carol attended as a spectator and was, as anticipated, kind, generous, and very loving. Carol was a guiding light.
Mirren, an actress who has won an Oscar, Emmy, Tony, and Golden Globe Award, and is recognized for her career that has lasted more than six decades, stated “the DeMille AwardIt was presented to me as a career achievement, but I choose to see it as a life experienced, a life endured, a life cherished, a life worked hard for, and a life continued, with hope. With that hope in mind, I would rather view this as a continuous look back at my career instead of a farewell speech.
She also expressed gratitude to Harrison Ford, Tessa Thompson, and Viola Davis, who received the DeMille Award last year, for attending to celebrate her.
Parker and Mirren will also be recognized at the main Golden Globes event.

5:45 PM: How a ‘Narcos’ actor enhances the year’s top political thriller
Our overview of the candidate…
NEW YORK — Wagner Moura continues to set new milestones.
First Brazilian actor to be recognized as a leading performer at the Golden Globes. First individual from South America to receive the best actor award at the Cannes Film Festival. First Latino to be honored as best actor in the 90-year history of the New York Film Critics Circle.
Of course, I’m very proud of it,” Moura – who is most recognized for his role as Pablo Escobar in the Netflix series “Narcos” – says when I reach out to reconnect after our initial meeting for decaf coffee at a hotel close to Central Park in late September. “It’s like, ‘Wow, I am the first Latino!’ But then I also think, ‘Really?’ … There have been many outstanding performances from that part of the world over the past 90 years.

5:30 PM: Hold on — is there a podcast prize?
Yes. This marks the inaugural year that the Golden Globes will introduce a best podcast award, making it the first major entertainment award to recognize this category.
And the first-time nominees are:
- Armchair Expert with Dax Shepard
- “Call Her Daddy”
- Great time spent with Amy Poehler
- “The Mel Robbins Podcast”
- “SmartLess”
- “Up First” from NPR

5:10 PM: Who’s hosting?
Nikki Glaser is set to host the event for her second consecutive year, which she humorously called “The Golden Globes: For a Good.”
The comedian and actress emerged as thefirst female host to take the stage alone in Golden Globes historywhen she hosted the show for the first time last year.
Glaser, who received a Golden Globe nomination last year for her HBO stand-up special “Someday You’ll Die,” stated theHollywood Reporterthat her highly praised hosting performance at the awards ceremony established a “high standard” for her this year: “Typically, when you do something, there are a few people who don’t like what you did—or a few flaws you can identify—and it was universally liked and well-received. I’m not accustomed to that. I don’t like that. It only puts me in a position for failure.”
Noted for her celebrity roasts, Glaser statedWomen’s Wear Dailythat she intends to take it even further this year in her opening monologue, particularly because there will be veterans present who “understand the mutually beneficial connection between a comedian host and the celebrity.”

5:06 PM: Who selects the winners of the Golden Globe awards?
The short answer: almost 400 media professionals in the entertainment sector from across the globe, some of whom are part ofwhat used to bethe Hollywood Foreign Press Association.
A brief reminder: The HFPA, at one time a group of87 international journalists, has voted on Golden Globe winners for years, and even though the organization’squestionable practicesThis made it simple to influence its voting members, yet actors and fans kept attending the ceremony every year.
In 2021, Hollywood reached a breaking point. Faced with controversy that the HFPA had no Black voting members and allegations that the organization was ignoring works by Black artists,NBC announced that it would not broadcastthe 2022 ceremony. The HFPA addressed the issue by appointing a chief diversity officer and including Black members, but it wasn’t sufficient to rescue the organization. Dick Clark Productions and the investment firm Eldridgepurchased the assets of the Globes in June 2023, and the HFPA dissolved and reorganized as the Golden Globe Foundation.
