The new rom-com People We Meet During Vacationwhich you can watch via aNetflix subscription, is a perfectly fun movie. If you’re a fan of the genre, it won’t surprise you with unexpected developments, but it’s an excellent film to enjoy if you’re seeking something cheerful and pleasant. However, it does have one moment, at least for me, that truly resonates. It occurs early in the film, when Poppy (Emily Bader) tells Alex (Tom Blyth), “You can be anyone you want on vacation.” This idea is something I completely agree with. Some plot details are coming up, so proceed with caution.

I Don’t Completely Redefine My Entire Identity, But I Engage In Activities I Wouldn’t Undertake at Home
In one of the scenes from the movie, which isadapted from a novel by Emily Henry, showcasing one of their trips together,Poppy and Alex are located in New Orleans.and create a tale about how the two friends have just become engaged. They act it out for the remainder of their journey, even though theyaren’t actually a couple(nonetheless). Although I have never engaged in anything quite to that extent, I enjoy taking a complete break from life when the chance arises.
This involves, for instance, dressing in garments that I would never put on at home. I have a tendency to do a lot of shopping prior to a trip. I might purchase a hat that I wouldn’t normally wear (like a Panama Hat I recently bought for a trip to Mexico, for example), or I might push beyond my usual boundaries and wear a vibrant shirt that I wouldn’t be caught dead in at home, where my style is typically “normcore.” I’m not sure what this reveals about me, but as Poppy mentions, she prefers “Vacation Alex,” whereas I really enjoy “Vacation Me.”
I’m also more likely to try an unusual type of food that I wouldn’t typically look for. This kind of food usually tastes better while on vacation, though. Or I could end up sitting in a bar alone and start talking to a stranger. I wouldn’t fabricate an elaborate tale like Poppy and Alex did in New Orleans (at least not before)Poppy’s boyfriend shows up), but Vacation Me is more outgoing than I usually am.

This Is Rarely Original Guidance
In a world after Anthony Bourdain, I don’t believe this is the deepest message in film history, but that’s perfectly fine. Many people travel in this way. They tend to be more daring while on vacation and more open and eager to experience new and varied things. I do think it serves as a good reminder that this is how we should approach life.shouldImagine a vacation. We can become anyone we desire during a journey.
Alex’s vacation might occasionally be pulled too far by Poppy, and at timesshe does not respect his limits, but for me, at least, that would be a positive aspect. Well, to some extent, naturally. Vacation Me enjoys being challenged in such a manner when I’m in a different country. It’s always beneficial to be reminded that it’s acceptable to feel that way!
The 2026 Netflix scheduleis beginning well in the sluggish and chilly month of January withPeople We Meet During Vacation, and I’m excited to see more romantic comedies this year as well!
