Owen Cooper Recalls Embarrassment as the ‘Only Boy’ in Acting Class on Golden Globe Win

Owen Cooperwon the award for Best Performance by a Male Actor in a Supporting Role on Television at the2026 Golden Globe Awards.

The 16-year-old made history as the youngest recipient of the award. He was recognized for his performance as Jamie Miller inAdolescenceon the 83rd annual event on Sunday, January 11.

In his victory speech, Cooper thanked everyone for acknowledging his performance.

Wow, being here with a Golden Globe, it still doesn’t feel real,” he started. “What an amazing path my family and I have experienced. We are deeply thankful for everything these experiences have brought us. It began as something I thought, ‘I might be fine, I might be terrible. I never knew.’ So I took a chance and enrolled in acting classes.

I was the only male present. It was awkward,” he remembered. “But I managed to get through it, and I’m still very much a beginner. So I’m still learning every day. I’m still learning from those who sat in front of me, from you who sat in front of me, who have inspired me.

He continued by expressing gratitude to Netflix and everyone who has stood by him, ending with the words: “Welcome 2026. You’ll never walk alone.”

Nominees also included Billy Crudup (The Morning Show), Walton Goggins (The White Lotus), Jason Isaacs (The White Lotus), Tramell Tillman (Severance) and Ashley Walters (Adolescence).

Adolescence is a short series that documents a family falling apart as their 13-year-old son is charged with killing his classmate. It explores issues of harmful masculinity and reveals the effect social media has on teenagers.

This is Cooper’s first Golden Globe nomination and victory. His co-star Ashley Walters was also considered for the award, along withStephen Graham and Erin Dohertyboth receiving recognition for their acting andAdolescence nominated for Best Television Limited Series, or Best Motion Picture Made for Television.

Crudup stars in The Morning Show as UBA president Cory Ellison. In the Apple TV series, Cory experiences romantic tension withReese Witherspoons Bradley Jackson, who anchorsThe Morning Showalongside Alex Levy, portrayed byJennifer Aniston.

This is Crudup’s third Golden Globe nomination. Earlier, Crudup received nominations in 2024 and 2022 for Best Actor in a Supporting Role on Television, all for his performance inThe Morning Show.

Goggins’s Rick Hatchett on The White Lotusbrought a lot of the show’s excitement in season 3. HBO’s series features Rick on a romantic trip with his girlfriend, Chelsea (Aimee Lou Wood), at the White Lotus resort in Thailand. However, events change when it’s discovered that Rick is actually present to face the man he thinks was responsible for his father’s death.

In season 3 of The White Lotus, Isaacs portrays Timothy, the head of the Ratliff family, whose vacation is disrupted when he discovers he is under investigation for questionable financial activities. His wife Victoria Ratliff (Posey) and their three children, Saxton (Patrick Schwarzenegger), Piper (Sarah Catherine Hook) and Lochlan (Sam Nivola), however, are completely unaware. The only thing keeping him stable throughout it all is his wife’s lorazepam.

Isaacs had earlier been nominated for a Golden Globe in the 2008 category of Best Actor in a Miniseries or a Television Movie for his performance inThe State Within.

Tillman portrays Seth Milchick, the newly appointed leader of the severed floor at Lumon Industries, in the Apple TV series.Severance. Mr. Milchick assumed control of Harmony Cobel’s (Patricia Arquette) role after she was let go. In the final season of the psychological drama, Milchick supported Mark S. — the innie version of Mark Scout, portrayed byAdam Scott— to finish the enigmatic Cold Harbor file under pressure from Lumon executives.

Walters was also recognized for his role inAdolescence. He portrays Luke Bascombe, a detective committed to discovering the facts surrounding the killing of a young girl. Bascombe is the one who detains Jamie Miller (Cooper) on suspicion of murder.
