Sykes, 61, attended the 83rd annual awards event on Sunday, January 11, sporting a white pin with black text that said, “BE GOOD,” alluding to Good, 37, who was tragically killed in Minneapolis on January 7.ICE conducted widespread raids in Minneapolis, following increased statements from the PresidentDonald Trumpand his administration’s approach towards Somali immigrants. (Minneapolis-St. Paul is where the biggest Somali community in the United States resides.)
“Of course, this is for the mother who was killed by an ICE agent, and it’s truly heartbreaking. I know you’re all out protesting today, and we need to raise our voices,” Sykes said.Varietyon the red carpet ahead of the awards show. “We need to be out there and shut this rogue government down, because it’s just awful what they’re doing to .”
An official statement about the pin campaign states that it “seeks to celebrate Renee Macklin Good and Keith Porter, while also reminding us what it means to be kind to each other in the midst of such tragedy – to be a good citizen, neighbor, friend, ally, and human.” (Keith Porter was a man who was killed by an off-duty ICE officer in Los Angeles on December 31, according tomultiple reports.)
Each day, in every place, ordinary people are doing the right thing: ensuring children’s safety while they walk to school, recording fathers who are being removed from their jobs, and contributing to fundraisers that support groups keeping us secure,” the campaign’s description states. “The #BeGood campaign is launching after reports indicated that 2025 was one of the deadliest years for ICE in two decades, in response to the current administration’s $100 million wartime recruitment initiative designed to increase enforcement capabilities.
Entities participating in the #BeGood campaign are Marmot, Move On, National Domestic Workers Alliance, Working Families Power, and “leaders from all areas of the entertainment industry,” as stated in a press release.Mark Ruffalowas also present at the Globes, spotted wearing the pins as they made their way onto the red carpet.
